On Sunday, February 17th my boyfriend and I went to brunch at a place called Isabella's.  This Manhattan restaurant seemed to be a very popular place for Sunday brunch.  Although I wasn't especially hungry we [for some reason] order a lot of food.

While waiting to be seated we got some brunch cocktails at the bar.  I got the Passion Cosmo since the bartender said it was a popular brunch drink.  The drink is strong and has an orange flavor.  My boyfriend got a classic Bloody Mary which came with an olive, celery and a lemon wedge.  He described the drink as spicy and delicious with a hint of citrus.

For brunch we decided to get 3 dishes: Isabella's Huevos Rancheros, Cinnamon-Raisin French Toast and the Filet Mignon Benedict.  The hearty Huevos Rancheros came in layers and was highlighted by queso fresco and fresh pico de gallo.  Although flavorful, the plate was not at all spicy as I had expected it to be.  The french toast was a sweet breakfast item.  The toast portion was made of a cinnamon-raisin roll and the bananas on top were brûléed.  At this point we had ordered so much food that I was unable to eat anymore.  Since I couldn't eat the eggs benedict, my boyfriend ate his half and described it as having a properly poached egg that was contrasted with the texture of a crispy onion ring.

The brunch we shared was definitely on the heavy side, but it was still quite enjoyable.

Prices: Drinks are $10 - 15.  Plates are $12 - 20.

Atmosphere: I would describe Isabella's as having a mellow, easy-going atmosphere with a mixed age crowd.  This is a perfect spot for brunch, or catching up with old friends.  The restaurant is well lit and plays soft jazz music.

Other Info: Be prepared to wait 15 - 30 minutes before you're seated.  The restaurant features high ceilings and many windows so it is easy to see outside and enjoy the natural lighting.

Overall Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤
